Where is Taragalte Park Camp?
Taragalte Park Camp sits in Tahtah, a peaceful palm-grove village in the Draa Valley between Zagora and M’hamid in southern Morocco. Guests reach us by road from Zagora through date-palm oases and Berber villages, then continue south toward the great dunes of Erg Chigaga near M’hamid. The camp works well as a first Sahara night after the drive from Ouarzazate, or as a quiet base for several days of desert exploring. Unlike remote dune camps reachable only by camel or four-wheel drive, our camp welcomes cars and campervans directly, with around fifty shaded camping pitches alongside four comfortable rooms. Why choose a Zagora desert camp over Merzouga?
Many travellers ask whether to visit the Zagora desert or Merzouga in the east. The Zagora region suits visitors who want the Sahara with less road time and fewer crowds. The journey from Marrakech is a scenic full-day drive through the High Atlas, Ait Benhaddou and the Draa Valley, noticeably shorter than the trek to Erg Chebbi. Around M’hamid and Erg Chigaga the dunes are wilder and the camps smaller, so nights feel genuinely remote, with camel caravans, Berber drums and skies full of stars. Merzouga has taller postcard dunes, but Zagora offers authenticity, calm and easy combinations with Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley.
